Personality: Rabastan’s passion and physical appearance both come from his mother, though his creativity is from his father’s side of the family. His brother Rodolphus was the heir to the Lestrange diamond fortune and the apple of his father’s eye, so Rabastan chose a path away from the family fortune. Since his brother was a star Quidditch player, Rabastan reverted to the arts, none of which he was good at: his music was abysmal and his painting even worse, and while he was a passable actor, writing was where he struck gold. Or diamonds, really, but he was never involved in his family’s business ventures: if he wasn’t going to get all of the inheritance, then he didn’t want any of it. He’s stubborn and egotistical that way—like all Lestranges. He works to keep up a muggle-hating exterior to protect himself and his wife from his brother, Rodolphus, who he strongly suspects murdered his father at the age of nineteen. He has minimized his French accent to the point where it’s almost untraceable. He clings to his mother’s English heritage and to the memory of his mother, though he knows fully well that she was unfaithful to his father. Rabastan doesn’t blame her at all: he hates his family and what it stands for, mainly because he has no part in it.

Biography: Rabastan’s mother died soon after his birth in June of 1960. Rabastan grew up between France and the Swiss Alps with his father and brother. Much of his time was spent with several tutors, all of whom he frustrated beyond belief because of his relentless questions of ‘how do you know that?’ and 'what if this happened instead...' He always felt distant from his brother and father, but he didn’t consciously make an effort to separate himself from them until was Sorted into Slytherin, where he realized his brother's full greatness and went to all lengths to break away from it. As was Lestrange family tradition, his father started teaching Rabastan the Dark Arts after his first year of Hogwarts, but he played dumb to prevent further teaching in that area. Rabastan graduated from Hogwarts 1978, when he took a trip to Canada. There he met his wife, Greta, a Canadian muggleborn, and after two and a half years living and working there, they are moving back to England, where they are hoping to find work. Greta has already taken a job at the Ministry in the Department of Magical Transportation, but Rabastan’s pride won’t let him go without one, so he is looking into working for The Daily Prophet—hopefully in a position where he can do more than sharpen pencils.
